There's no question who goes to bed the latest and wakes up first in the morning at our home. If you were thinking it's me than you've got to be kidding. Jonathan has always been an early bird and a night owl in our family. This serves him well now that it seems to be a required practice in his field of endeavor. So it's not unusual that he collapses into bed at 11 or midnight after sleep has already claimed me and slips out of bed at 5 a.m. to study and get ready for the day. As for me, I get out of bed when Chase and Kaidence discover me somewhere under my covers savoring the last few minutes of my treasured sleep. I'm lucky that my little rays of sunshine are ambitious and happy morning people. They smother me with sloppy kisses and request that its time for breakfast. (that is somewhere between 6 and 7 a.m.) So I stumble to the kitchen, fill up sippy cups with milk, change Chase's diaper, and make Jonathan's lunch. About 7:30 we kneel as a family for morning prayer. I love this part because Chase lately has been reaching out and calling "hands" he holds one of my hands and Jonathan holds the other. Kaidence (of course) holds Baby Emma. If I'm feeling ambitious and healthy, I make oatmeal (lately we've been eating the steel-cut kind). Jonathan likes it and well, if it's good for me, than I don't mind it either. Now, if I'm not feeling so spunky, I pull out the shredded wheat squares or Raisin Bran. No guilt and again, my kids actually eat it. (No worries about all this health stuff though, because I usually make pancakes on Saturdays). I must say though that watching Chase eat is a great time. He just shovels it in and grins in between bites. That's when I think "life doesn't get any better than this." Kaidence on the other hand has a different take with food. Like I've mentioned before, she's a great debater (Aunt Amanda you'd be so proud of her.) She's developed a great vocabulary and an ability to communicate. Lately she's been using a "tummy ache" to weasel her way out of breakfast. Luckily I've been able to get a few bites out of her.
After breakfast we have our daily devotional which includes 10 versus from the Book of Mormon and our daily dose of "The Intellectual Devotional" which covers a different topic every day. Monday is History, Tues -Literature, Wed-Visual Arts, Thurs-Science, Friday-Music, Sat-Philosophy, Sun-Religion. It has been a fun tradition we started the first of this year. I kind of chuckled when I first read the inside cover of the book. "Revive Your Mind, Complete Your Education, and (get this) Roam Confidently with the Cultured Class." Ok, so I know Jonathan said he thought we could both benefit, but I'm sure he was really thinking of me when he ordered it online. (LOL). Hey, I really have learned a lot, I just hope I can remember it when I happen to chance upon some serious conversations. Just my luck, I will have forgotten that the Byzantine Empire was renamed Constantinople in the fourth century by Emperor Constantine and is now known as Istanbul, or that metaphysics is the most general study of reality, or that a black hole occurs when a massive star dies out and that there is no reason to worry that a black hole will suck up all the energy in the universe. (Ok enough of that).

After Jonathan kisses us good bye my day begins.
My budding artist would color all day if I let her. Kaidence loves to color with crayons, markers, paint and anything creative, even glue. We have a lot of fun making messes and creative art at our house.
Kaidence also loves to work on projects and lately I laugh when she demands some space because, as she puts it "I'm working on my re-lief-so-sci-ety"(I wonder where she got that from)LOL>

Chase, has converted from eating playdoh-to making bouncy balls with it. It works great. What an inventor.

Yesterday he took to the markers. As you can see I wasn't doing the best job of supervising, but I promise I wasn't blogging.

Today we had a friend come visit. Maddie taught us how to play with Barbies. It was enlightening and I must admit, it was fun too. (but just for the record, Kaidence and I still prefer the real baby dolls).

Wow Mindi, You do a great job of starting your day. I am proud when I get myself and the kids ready and feed by 9:00.
Anyways, I'm so glad that you found me. I love the blogging world because I get to see what other peoples lifes entail, when otherwise I wouldn't know. Your kids are getting so big. I still think of Kadience as a little baby not a little girl.
Are you serious? I can't believe all the stuff you get done (especially WITH your husband) before 9:00. I am amazed. Oh, and that kind of oatmeal rocks!
