Kindergarten

I thought I knew how much tender emotion one heart could hold when my first baby Kaidence was placed in my arms and I became a mother. Today, it was almost 10 times that feeling, mixed with a new responsibility to let her go. I guess every parent decided to take his/her child to school today because there was no parking whatsoever, but secretly, I was happy for the chance it gave me to walk several streets holding Kaidence's hand. It was a relief to see excitement on her face and even a smile. I must say, it took everything I had to keep it together and walk her to her class. When we arrived at the door, her teacher was literally prying a little boy off the leg of his mother, telling him it was going to be ok and meanwhile pulling the door shut behind Kaidence. My last plea was: "Can I please say Goodbye?" I stuck my head in just in time to make eye contact with Kaidence. It was an abrubt way to start the day, but maybe that is just what we both needed. We didn't have time to get all emotional. Heaven Bless Kindergarten teachers on the first day! :)
I took Chase, Sophia and Kian for a walk today to pass the time, and I kept praying that Kaidence was doing alright. Deep down, I knew she was ok, but I could hardly wait to see her face. When her teacher opened the door and called the students names to be picked up I distinctly remember the look on her face: one of relief, and triumph over a desire to cry. What a day to remember.
I'm thankful for the milestones in our lives and the opportunities they give us to pause and not only remember but appreciate the journey that got us there.
I look forward to the adventure of seeing Kaidence through her school years.
Happy First Day of Kindergarten Kaidence! You're going to fly!
